GeoLang wins techUK’s Most Innovative Cyber Security Company award

GeoLang was selected as one of four cyber security companies to be shortlisted for the award final, which took place on 4th June at InfoSec Europe held at London Olympia. The award, run by The Cyber Growth Partnership in association with the government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport and techUK, was set up to recognise the best of innovation within the UK cyber security sector.
Having pitched its technology to a judging panel including leading CISOs, venture capitalists and analysts, GeoLang was announced as ‘Most Innovative Small Cyber Security Company of the Year’.
GeoLang’s patented cyber security solutions – under its Ascema banner – were enabled by prior research at Surrey that led to two patent filings for a system and method for finding IP without needing to expose the IP, enabling a kind of ‘private search’. Ascema then emerged through an Innovate UK collaboration between Surrey’s Department of Computing, GeoLang, and Jaguar Land Rover, led by Dr Lee Gillam for Surrey.
The IPCRESS (IP Protecting Cloud Services in Supply Chain) project investigated the tracking of Intellectual Property (IP) through supply chains to prevent IP leakage or inappropriate retention. This is a key area of expertise for Surrey, and demonstrates industrial relevance of research taking place within the recently recognised Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security.
GeoLang’s Ascema technology works by recognising when snippets of protected content are being shared or edited, allowing for continuous and active control over sensitive content and IP as it is adapted, repurposed and transmitted, where allowed.
Dr Gillam comments, “It is always rewarding when the findings of academic research are taken up by industry. But to see this leading from idea to technology and on to an award such as this is very pleasing indeed, and many congratulations are due to the GeoLang team on this achievement.”
